Shaggy but engaging road movie follows a German journalist who finds himself caring for an abandoned 9-year-old girl. Wenders’ freewheeling style and the appealing rapport between Vogler and Rottländer smooth over the story’s somewhat aimless stretches. Followed by WRONG MOVE and KINGS OF THE ROAD in Wenders’ “road movie” trilogy.
